I hope you enjoyed the 3 part Hamartia series. If you missed it, here’s a link to the blog articles.
Hamartia is about the Garden of Eden, but I’s more than this. It’s a story about the birth of sin into the world. For some, sin is a religious concept. I agree and disagree with this.
I agree because for centuries we’ve used the term sin as a way to beat folks up, while at the same time promoting God’s love and Christ’s sacrifice. But I disagree because the power and stench of sin can be seen all over the world, especially when talking about issues like child abuse, child sexual abuse, human trafficking, and others. The power and stench of sin are agnostic when it comes to religion. Sin is, well, sin.
The power of sin drives us to do activities we may not really want to do. The stench of sin rests on our society like a perpetual disease.
Sin is about choices. Like ‘Iysh and Ishshah had choices in the Gan, we also have choices. We can choose to do things God’s way or choose to do things our own way.
The more I read about childhood sexual abuse and other issues, the more I realize our human condition is fully under attack by sin. Sin is an issue of our spirit. When we change our spirit, we change our thinking. When we change our thinking, we change our emotions.
My childhood experience wreaked havoc in my spirit. My change in spirit, mind and emotions came when I chose God’s gift of Christ.
I wrote the Legend of Hamartia as way to shed some light on the things that make us say “What in the world is going on?”
It’s all about Hamartia. But…there is a rescue plan already in place.
