Racist Christian?

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.
— John 13:34-35 NKJV

Jesus commanded his disciples to love one another. This is how they would prove to the world they were his students.

Are we exempt from this command? Do we have a right to disobey it? Was is only meant for the people who were within hearing distance?

I don’t believe so.

Therefore, for anyone to say they are a student of Christ and hate someone because of their skin color is oxymoronic. It is like  calling oneself a racist Christian. When we do this, we only demonstrate that we are disciples of our own teachings.

To call ourselves a Christian and practice racism doesn’t prove we are a disciple of Jesus. It proves we are ready, willing, and able to disobey Jesus. It proves we are confused and perhaps need to return to the classroom.

What do you think?

Foundationally Christian refers to realizing the basics of being a Christian. We’ve complicated God and moved away from the foundations of serving Christ, especially the foundation of love. Foundations 4 Love is a 4 part workshop series designed to re-connect you with this basic. Would you like to learn more about this workshop? Email me at amgadson@surrenderedpen.com
